Julia Janssen (1994) makes the challenges of our digitalizing society tangible in art and design. By creating performative and interactive installations, she raises awareness of the underlying infrastructures of data-driven technologies, such as informed consent, bias in AI, the right to be forgotten and much more. Her work takes you on a visual journey, exploring how to navigate fairness, autonomy, freedom, and democracy in a data-driven society.

Janssens is a professional public speaker. Her keynotes take you on a visual journey underneath the surface of the internet, into her art installations and research. She is a regular guest on radio, tv shows and podcasts. News and media overview

Since 2021, Janssen is the Ambassador of the Dutch Data Protection Foundation (SDBN) in class action lawsuits against X., Amazon, and Adobe. With a small team, she works on awareness campaigns on data protection and digital rights.

In 2025, Janssen started as the talk show host of Data Morgana. In this series, Janssen speaks with experts about the future of the Internet. On Dutch TV, and in fifteen languages online. Data Morgana podcast (in English) coming soon

Julia Janssen is a multiple award winning artist. In 2023, Janssen was named Rise25: the world’s 25 visionaries who are making the internet (and the world) a better place. This honor was awarded by Mozilla in celebration of their 25th anniversary. In 2024 her installation Mapping the oblivion won the Falling Falls Breakthrough: Breaking the wall of digital heteronomy. She is also one of the most promising and talented young Dutch entrepreneurs in 2024, award by Financieel Dagblad. Janssen won er first award for her graduation project, Bank of Online Humanity in 2016, the Crypto Design Award.
